The Gloaming – “The Sailor’s Bonnet”

Fiddle master Martin Hayes, guitarist Dennis Cahill, sean-nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird, hardanger innovator Caoimhin Ó Raghallaigh and New York pianist Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) joined forces in 2011 to form the Irish supergroup The Gloaming. With two studio albums under their belt, The Gloaming is set to release their first live album March 2nd entitled Live at the NCH on Real World Records.

Live at the NCH is a six-track record cherry-picked from two years of live performances at the National Concert Hall by the group’s pianist and producer, Thomas Bartlett, who is known for his collaborations with such notables as Ed Sheeran, St. Vincent, Sufjan Stevens, Father John Misty, David Byrne, and many more. The six tracks chosen are: “The Booley House,” “Cucanandy,” “The Sailor’s Bonnet,” “The Pilgrim’s Song,” “The Rolling Wave,” and “Fáinleog”.

For a foray into The Gloaming’s musical universe, here’s their 2014 live performance of “The Sailor’s Bonnet” at Other Voices Derry/Londonderry. We strongly suggest you stick out the long intro.
