[Listen to Edouard Bineau in the Nextplayer]
Born in 1969, cradled by Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner, Edouard Bineau begins his musical journey at the age of 14 by playing harmonica and guitar in blues bands influenced by Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and Hot Tuna.
In 1988, he teaches himself piano and harmony by listening, among others, to Bill Evans, Hank Jones, Miles Davis, Charlie Haden, Paul Bley and John Coltrane.
In 1999, his career in jazz is launched as he begins playing some of his own compositions in Parisian jazz clubs such as the Petit Opportun, the Sunset and the Caveau de la Huchette.
A regular of the Parisian jazz clubs and jam sessions, he meets Arnaud Lechantre and Olivier Rivaux with whom he will record Exodus, following his signing to Jean-Jacques Pussiau’s label Nightbirdmusic. The album is extremely well received by the critics (Sélection FIP, R10 de Répertoire, Le Monde, Jazzman, France Info).
In 2004, Bineau forms a new trio with Gildas Boclé and records a selection of inspired originals, a few standards (Interface, Angel Eyes, Besame Mucho) and a cover of Cat Steven’s Sad Lisa. The album, entitled Ideal Circus, comes out on Nightbirdmusic in September 2005.
“A jazz poet, finally!” - Antoine Herve
“[…] the name Edouard Bineau should be added to the short list of pianists which not only have something special to say, but also the means to do it.
His mastery of the instrument is remarkable; I am particularly impressed by the sensibility of his touch which allows the modulation of both the dynamic and the articulation of his phrasing. The attention he brings to every minute detail permits him to infuse his pure and profound melodies with a truly vibrant sound […]” - Steve Swallow
“Edouard Bineau combines with success swing and creativity […]” - Kenny Werner
