Singer-songwriter Becca Stevens follows the beat of her own drum, or in this case ukulele. The young product of the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music is a highly sought-after collaborator to the likes of Ambrose Akinmusire, José James, Dayna Stephens and Taylor Eigsti, among others. But when it comes to her own band, which features keyboardist/accordionist Liam Robinson, bassist Chris Tordini, and drummer/percussionist Jordan Perlson, Stevens has chosen to carve her own unique and distinct path, evolving beyond her jazz roots and making a foray into the vast world of pop and rock. With Perfect Animal, released last month on Universal Music Classics, Stevens is striving to make her mark in music creating a sound that can only be described as her own. We absolutely loved Stevens’ brilliant rendition of Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You”, the first single off Perfect Animal.
