I met bassist/multi-instrumentalist Alex Claffy a few months ago as he rolled through San Antonio with the educational program, JazzReach. The 22-year-old has backed Wayne Escoffrey, Orrin Evans in his Captain Black Big Band, J.D. Allen, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, among many others. The dude was a character, certainly charming, and said in his visit that he was soon to complete his debut album. I told him to send it to me right away when it was done. That time is now imminent with Claffy dropping the EPK of his debut album, which features saxophonist Troy Roberts, drummer Kyle Poole, and numerous others, with a tentative release this winter.
